Learning Series: Increasing Blog Traffic

Wednesday, 10 February 2016
Blog traffic is basically how many people visit your blog and I've found some ways to help increase this; obviously views aren't everything but at the same time you still want people to see the effort you're putting it. I was contacted by Tim from TekFirst, dealing with social media,  and he was telling me about a Learning Series. I haven't been paid or sponsored to do this but I thought his ideas would make a really great blog post. Blog traffic can be very confusing and to be honest I didn't understand it till a few months ago. I thought I'd share some of my tips on how to increase it, without being annoying.

Scheduling Tweets:

I didn't do this for so long because I just didnt see the point, I thought it would be annoying and a bit pointless. Then when I went back to college I found that my blog views would decrease because I just wasn't active on social media, especially Twitter. All I do is go onto TweetDeck and schedule a few tweets on the day I'v uploaded and then a few up until when I next post. This just means that I can remind people I've uploaded so that when I do go on twitter next I can spend my time chatting to people or tweeting about how many cheese toasties I've ate.
I thin done thing you should avoid when scheduling is too many tweets because if you tweet every ten minutes people will just not view your blog because it's annoying. Also finding your peek times-seaway to next point-

Finding Your Peek Times:

Ok so on social media there are certain times when it will be easier to interact with people because more people are online. I mean ever wondered why your instagram only got 3 likes? Probably because you uploaded it at a weird time and it gets lost among others.
I usually like to schedule my tweets or post instagrams about blog posts at times that I know I'd be online. This could be early morning before school/college or the time you'd usually get in, dinner time or later on the night. I think it's easy once you figure out when you're more likely to read something, then just post at those times.
Also I'd advise that you dont post during a chat. When I tweet or Instagram I hashtag things like #bbloggers #lbloggers #fbloggers because it means that you're posting to the blogging community and more people will find you, however all these hashtags are part of a chat. Chats are usually one around 6-7, 7-8 and then 8-9  so you dont want to interrupt everyones chat with 'Hey check out my post!!!' I'd say post at like 7:56 because that when the chat is ending. It's easy once you've worked out when chats are on and it's not the end of the world if you post in-between one but I know I dont like to because I feel like it's a bit pointless, people are more interested in the chat but you can just work around it and people won't mind either way!

Interact With The Community:

Ok so when I first started blogging I didn't really have any idea about the massive community and how to get involved but when you do you'll find you'll make friends and your blog traffic will grow because you have people supporting you; it's a lovely feeling.
As I mentioned theres chats using the hashtags #GirlGang #bbloggers #fbloggers #lbloggers #fblchat #SpeakUp and all of these run throughout the week. Blogger chats are basically a time were you use the hashtag and answer questions though out the hour; it could be topics like 'blog photos' or topical chats like 'autumn fashion'. Blog chats are a great way to increase traffic because you increase your traffic by making friends. Personally, interacting with others is my favourite way to increase traffic because it's not promotion you're just making friends. You're able to gain friends who will view your blog and give you help and advice and thats my favourite way. You also gain blogs that you can read.

Utilise Your Social Media Presence:

I'm going to be talking about Instagram here. I always had a personal instagram account and I didn't feel the need to have a dedicated blog one, however I do think social media is a great way to get yourself out there. My blog instagram has gave my blog a second outlet and another place to be showcased. I think with any social media platform that represents and links back to your blog, you have to be careful with how you present yourself. I mean my instagram is a representation of the photography I have on my blog and my Twitter is a representation of my personality, if you act differently on either one it could effect how genuine you seem so I'd say be you and dont change how you act for likes or retweets. Your social media should reflect who you are and what your blog stands for and this way more people will come to your blog and your traffic will increase.

Hope you enjoyed this post!

  8. Lovely and solid tips, hon! I couldn't agree more about figuring out that perfect timing for posting and sharing. A post shared during the chat gets lost in a second and even annoys people so that was spot-on advice :)
