Festive Pamper Day

Sunday, 13 December 2015

I breakup from college on Friday so I thought I'd write about some things I like to get up to on a pamper day, considering everyone will have a long time off.

Having a bath!! I only really do this in the winter because it's a lot colder and I have more time to relax. I decided to use The Comforter from Lush, I only bought this yesterday and I love it. I was never a fan of bath bombs or Lush but after using this I've decided I'm a convert!! It's so silky in the water and smells amazing! It's very fresh and fruity, it has a kind of sweet smell and I imagine it would really clear your nose out, if you had a cold! It's a bubble bar so you do get a lot of bubbles but it also turns the water pink.
I just think that a nice, relaxing bath is a great way to start or finish the day and it's a lovely treat to yourself.

Hot Chocolate is a fave around winter time and especially Christmas time! To make it extra special I add whipped cream and giant chocolate buttons. I usually do one layer of cream, then buttons, top up the cream and add more buttons. It's so sickly and is probably really bad for you but as a treat it is amazing. The cream and chocolate melt into the hot chocolate and make it extra nice. Snuggling up with this and some films is perfect for any festive night.

Confession time! I am a huge nail biter, I know it's disgusting and it's a really bad habit but I cant help it; I've done it since I was a child and now I do it without even realising. I mainly do it if my nails are ugly, if they snap or if I'm nervous/bored. This long habit has meant that my nails are very thin and a bit gross, so while I have time, on a pamper day I like to paint them and give them a bit of love. Of course I went for the classic, Christmas red and topped it off with a sparkly, silver accent nail. (Ciate Fit For A Queen). I feel like If I give them a bit of love it means that I'm less likely to bite them and may help a little bit.

Finally I have some of my fave films! I didn't want to include Christmas films, even if it's festive, because I feel like there's so many posts out there featuring the same films. So here are some of my faves.

Firstly, Before I Disappear. This is an amazing film and it's so artistic, I love it!! It follows a drug addict, Richie, who is just about to end his life when he gets a phone call asking if he can look after his niece for the night. It's an insight into his life, childhood and a real emotional journey of an estranged family. It's not all dark, like it sounds, actually it's very uplifting. It's full of jokes and intimate moments. It has real surrealistic elements which transition the film through and capture the contrast between Richies life and his Niece. I think it's amazing and is definitely worth a watch.

Then I chose Howls Moving Castle. I love Ghibli films and this has to be one of my faves. I think the artwork is truly stunning and I loved all the minor characters like Calcifer. I think that it's one of those films you can put on and just not have to think too much about. It's quite long but it's a great, nostalgic film if you have a free afternoon/day. Personally I love all the places they visit, especially the flower field, it's like a dream.

Totoro!! I think everyone knows that I love Totoro so of course I had to include it. I wouldn't say it's the best Ghibli film out there but as a starter to their work it;s amazing. All the characters are so cute and it just made me want to be a little kid again. It's so imaginative and gives you that warm feeling inside after it's finished. There's not much I can say about it without repeating the words 'amazing' and 'cute' but it's seriously worth a watch, especially if you have young family members or just want a feel good, cute film.

Finally Comet. This film is a bit out there and different but I think it's amazing. It's very surreal and it's set in coinciding universes, which translate a couples journey. It doesn't have a happy ending but it's very real and doesn't stray from real emotions. If anything this film makes life seem a bit more normal and doesn't romanticise romance. I really enjoyed the sad elements of the film because you were really rooting for the character but it did show that even if you love someone sometimes it may not work. I think films like this are important because it doesn't make everything seem perfect. Saying that, it does have a great love story with complex characters.

If you watch any of the films or try any of the pamper things do let me know, I'd love to hear your thoughts! What do you do on a pamper day?

  1. Lovely post! The comforter is my favourite bubble bar from Lush, the matching shower gel is great too!
I'm a nail biter too, it's a horrible habit that I just can't seem to shake... I have started wearing fake nails now because when they look nice I'm less inclined to bite them! x

    1. Thank you Bethan! I'll have to try the shower gel, it's such a lovely scent. Ugh same, I think it's something I'll have to put up with and take care of my nails as much as I can! Fake nails is a good idea, I might try that out!XX

  2. Absolutely love this post! Baths are my favourite way of relaxing and winding down after a long or stressful day. I must admit I broke my nail biting habits but recently it's come back with a vengeance. Nevertheless I always feel content with a set of painted nails!

  7. Mmm, this sounds like the best kind of night in (though I'd be scraping the cream off that hot chocolate). Everything is so warm and fuzzy and I can just imagine how soothing this kind of night-in would be. Would it be viable to paint your nails and watch TV whilst in the bath? I think someone needs to work that out so we can all enjoy these kind of nights more without having to move at all.
