Style Snippet: Red, Zara, Button Down Skirt

Thursday, 5 November 2015
I made a sneaky order on Zara because I thought I'd treat myself a bit and then start saving, (probably wont happen) and I thought I'd style up one of my favourite pieces.

Skirt: Zara.
Top: Zara.
Scarf: New Look.
Jacket: Ebay bargain.

This is my new favourite outfit because it's so 'on trend' but in a classic and autumnal way. I saw this skirt in York but just walked straight passed, it wasn't till I saw it online that I actually took notice of it. It's a suedette skirt but it's not a thick material, it's quite floaty and thin but not in a bad quality sense. The material is slightly glossy and soft; it's the type that you can brush either way and it goes darker and lighter, ahha, did anyone do that with fury things in art class? I feel like that was just me. Anyway, It's not the type of material that will crease weirdly when you sit on it, which I love since I spend most of my days sat in classrooms. The 'buttons' down the front are actually poppers but there's no way to tell, it just looks more sleek and is easier to put on this way. They are set out in groups of 2, instead of one by one, which I thought was an interesting and mostly unnoticeable detail. On the website it is described as 'Dark Russet' but it's basically an orange-red. I was going to go for the turquoise colour but I thought this was a bit more vibrant and different. As for the cut of the skirt, it flows down by your hips in a A-line style but it's a bit more lose than a typical tube/A-line style. It sits just above the hips but isn't a highwaisted skirt, it's slightly different. I would say if you are petite that it wont sit on your waist, I just have it above the hips but not right on the waist and it's fine. Can I just say that Zara needs a petite section!!
It is a shorter style of skirt but I think this adds to the casual look of it and for me it's the perfect length but I imagine if you're taller than me (5ft) then it will be a bit shorter.

For my top half, I went with this casual, stripe top. I love Zara basics because they all feel like Pj's and this is no different, it's so soft!! The arm length is slightly longer because it's supposed to be a bit baggy and oversized, I love this because you can snuggle up in it and pull the sleeves over your hands when it's cold. I'd highly recommend their basics, especially their striped ones!
My coat is an Ebay bargain but they are all over at this time of year. I love wearing my boyfriend blazer now because I think it makes me look slightly older and really pulls the outfit together in a laid back but put together way. I have a full post about this jacket here

The scarf is a newer purchase and I havent stopped wearing it! It's a large, check/tartan-ish scarf it this lovely orange/rust colour. New Look describe it as coral but it's much darker and more autumnal than that. It's so soft and just adds an extra bit of warmth to an outfit.

I hope you enjoyed this snippet, I really just love this look!

I have an almost similar skirt I bought in Korea for probably a fraction of the price, so super happy about it - can't wait to wear it out soon too :) love how the button down skirt trend is making a comeback, I remember rocking it as a teenager and loved it!

  8. Love the skirt! I usually don't mix patterns but you always manage to make it work & it looks so good on you :) I think it's so cool to see how different people have such different styles like when you see someone wearing an outfit you wouldn't personally wear because it's not really your style but on them it looks absolutely stunning <3 (hope this makes sense haha)
