Room Tour And Easy Decor Tips

Tuesday, 6 October 2015
My best friend, Grace, has such a lovely and different room so I thought I'd do a part 2 of this post and show you some easy ways to decorate your space.

So this is me and Grace, I thought I'd go and stalk her room because I love her style and it's a lot different to mine, so it's nice to include it on the blog.

Hanging Items:
One thing I really love, in Graces room, is all the things hanging from the ceiling. I'm waiting to get some pearl plants for mine to do the same thing because I think hanging items from the roof just adds lots of interest in you room and it clears your space. I find that because I have a lot of plants and novelty bits on my surfaces, my room can look a bit cluttered, so hanging things from the roof is just a bit more interesting and minimalist. I think this could work really well if your working with a smaller space or at uni, you could hang things on notice boards or off wardrobes and have the same effect.
So Grace has a dream catcher and some handing love hearts off her wardrobe. This is really easy to recreate anywhere because you dont have to drill holes in the ceiling. You can pick things like this up from markets or little vintage stores, even Ebay. Then she has the hanging plant from Ikea. Obviously I love this because its greenery in a room! My favourite decor items are plants and this is no exception, it just adds a nice pop of colour and life to your space. Then there's this African style mobile, I thought you could easily recreate something like this, by hanging origami birds. It's just something that makes your space a bit more personal and different.

Collections:
Collections are a really easy way of brightening up your space and adding more of your personality to a blank room. Grace loves shells, so shes collected a lot and has them displayed on her windowsill. I thought it was cute because she even sprinkles glitter on them and displays them in different ways, like laying them out, having them in jars or in decorative bowls. I think it's a great way of filling up and empty space and having a hobby.
The idea of having things in jars is a really easy way to decorate because you could do anything with it; you could have glitter in a jar, fairy lights, crystals, sweets or even coloured sand. It's just a fun way of adding colour and personality to your room and can easily be recreated to you taste.

Memories And Gifts:
Photo walls have been around for ages and they can be done in so many ways, from disposable cameras, film SLRs, polaroids and even notice boards full of photos. Its just a fun way of displaying things that make you happy. I love going into Graces room and looking at all the photos because they are from all her travelling, so it's interesting to see all the different places. You could even have themed walls, for example a travel wall or a friends wall. Just little things like displaying photos can really change up your room and turn a plain wall into something that can cheer you up or make you laugh. I think this is a great idea for uni or if you move out because it gives you a sense of comfort when you are so far away from home.

I also thought of gifts; home wear is a really nice idea to give to someone and, again, just adds a bit of you to the room. I gave Grace this, little Klimt tin because I knew she liked his work and wanted a bag that was really expensive in the same design. I think novelty items can just add memories to the room and they are often something you wouldn't buy yourself. I never buy myself home items because I'd rather spend my money on clothes, so my parents will often get me candles or look out for novelty busts because they know I like them. Gifts are really fun to give to someone because you know that it's a way for them to decorate their space.

Grace also displays a lot of gig tickets around her room. I do the same because its just a great way of remembering a time and it's always nice to have your favourite bands displayed. She has a lot on the inside of her wardrobe door, which I thought was a great idea because it hides them so you room isn't too cluttered but you still see them often.

I really hope you enjoyed this post and liked Graces room as much as me. What is your favourite way to decorate? x

  1. Lovely post. I love the different ways Grace decorates her room, my room ends up just being a scatter of stuff, though I do have a shelf of glass animals that I love as well as random jars filled with stuff so I can see it all but it's still tidy.
