The Power Of Makeup

Monday, 28 September 2015

So the I originally saw The Power Of Makeup tag by the beautiful NikkieTutorials and I knew I wanted to give it a go myself. I'm not a makeup artist so I did it in a different way but I just wanted to make myself feel more confident without makeup and show others that imperfections are ok and nothing to be ashamed of.

Ok so this is the scary part! This is me with no makeup on, as you can see I have a lot of dark pigmentation in my skin because of past blemishes. I also have an odd eye shape and one eye is slightly bigger than another. I have quite a few blemishes and redness on my skin, and dark circles under my eyes.
My makeup that I used was to enhance my features and add a bit of glam to my look. I love makeup, I love glitter and I love lipsticks. I like to enjoy putting make-up on, so I take my time and enhance the features I want.
The products I used were MACs primer and Studio Sculpt foundation because its lovely and dewy but very full coverage! Then I just added my Avon bronzer to the crease of my eye to even them out and define them; I also lined my eyes with the Loreal super liner because I love a cat eye, it makes me feel put together and glam. I used the lightest colour from my Avon eye-shadow pallet, to highlight my inner corner and make me look more awake. To go along with the glam look I put a bit of Collections Glam Crystal eye-liner on my inner corner to add a pop of colour and some glitter because who doesnt love a bit of glitter?? I went for a strong contour and blush colour because I makes me look more healthy and older, which I needed because I was going out and I didn't want to look like a twelve year old. (Spoiler I still did)

I love makeup, It makes me feel confident and put together, but I know I shouldnt rely on makeup for confidence. I started wearing makeup in year 7, so I was around 11? 12 maybe, but I started to wear it because I had spots and no one else did yet and I'd get bullied for it. It made me really awkward, especially when I'm not the most confident person ever. I do think I started wearing makeup for the wrong reasons, I was too involved in what other people thought of me and didn't wear it for myself.

Nowadays I wear it because I love to put it on, it relaxes me and it's more of a hobby than a chore. I still feel as if I cant go to college without it on but I've been able to work on my confidence so that I can now see friends without it or go to the town without it. I'm building my self esteem up slowly but that is what works for me. I know that most people wouldn't give it a second thought if I didn't wear makeup one day but I feel better in myself if I do.

You can see on the photos that I dont transform myself when I put makeup on; you can still see some spots and dark circles but I'm not bothered. They will always be there and thats ok. Everyone has imperfections and most of the time, no one but themselves will notice them. I just wear makeup to make myself feel better and look more awake and how I feel on the inside. I feel like my bad, dehydrated skin doesn't reflect how I feel on the inside, so by covering the pigmentation and adding some nicer colour back into my face, I feel like me. Does this even make sense? It's hard to write how you feel ahah!!

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is wear makeup for you, wear it because you like how it feel and not because some people bully you or because all your friends are! I know that if I'd just had a better skincare routine when I was 11/12 and not piled on foundation I probably would have better skin. It's ok to have imperfections and it's ok to wear makeup. Wear makeup because you love yourself, don't hide under it.

  3. Aww well done for doing this! I have tonnes of pigmentation + redness too at the ripe age of 23 so no worries - I never used to wear makeup in school or anything but only just discovered it in uni! Now I just spam everyone on my snapchat in my no makeup look and it's great! I think it's only natural for people to have 'imperfections' so you're beautiful either way really :)
