A Blog Redesign

Wednesday, 30 September 2015
This is just a mid-week post, slotted into my schedule because I wanted to address the redesign of my blog.

So this is my team ahah! They are my bestfriend, Grace and my boyfriend Lukke. I roped them in to help me with my redesign and they did it so well and I love it!
Grace was on artistic duties, which basically meant she drew the peony and lavender that I imagined. I thought I'd do it myself, like I did with the cacti but she is so much better at drawing details. Shes absolutely amazing and she doesn't even realise, she managed to turn my scattered idea of a peony and other flowers into an actual drawing that would fit my blog. I love peonies because my mam grew one this year and it made me fall in love with all her plants, I think they are so feminine and beautiful, then I also wanted lavender because if you read my blog often you'll know I use it a lot. It's great for photos and it smells beautifully.  Overall they are my favourite flowers, apart from Lupines but they didn't fit well, and I wanted to incorporate them in my blog.

We started out with it being hand drawn and then we transferred it into Photoshop ready for colouring.

It took us a while to figure out how to colour it but in the end I thought of photoshop. Lukke managed to figure out how to 'fill bucket' and then I went under way with choosing the different shades I wanted. I went for a muted look because I didn't want it to be overpowering. I then just changed the saturation of the image so that it had a warmer tone, just so it didn't wash out my blog.

Then for the header I just got the sizes from Google (1000 x 300 pixels) and added my text first. I get my font from Dafont and I use Night Still Comes Regular because it is simple but I liked the curved lines and edges. I added two simple lines to fill space and then wrote an overview of what I post. I didn't want to label myself to one genre so I went with the 3 things I post most often.
For the flower image, I change the flower to a PNG so that it had no background and I could drag it onto my image and see the placement. I made them face opposite ways but remade the same sizes because I think the symmetry works really well and the lavender curves around the text, which brings the whole thing together. I'm really happy with how it turned out and I'm so lucky to have such a talented friend.

For my buttons and contact information I did the same thing basically but this time I included my original cacti. When I first started the blog I drew these and I was so proud of my original header, so I didn't want to lose that part of my blog, after all it's still the same content. I thought they go perfectly here and just add more of my personality to my layout.
Lukke basically slept and lazed around for the first day, when me and Grace were deigning it all but the second day was his time to shine haha. If anyone is like me and has no clue about HTML and all of that stuff you will feel my pain of scrolling through 'How To's and getting no further forward.

Lukke basically linked up all my buttons to the different pages and then added everything to the blog at the end.
I'm so happy that he knew how to do all of this because I would not have a clue and my blog wouldn't look how it does! I don't want to get all cringe so I'll stop talking about Grace and Lukke but they are fab.

I hope everyone likes my new design. Nothing will be changing in terms of the content I post, I just wanted to make my blog look like a blog I'd read and be more personal, I just don't think it reflected me before.

Thank you x
